• INTRODUCING PERFECT PITCH

Perfect Pitch is an ethical landlord and property management collective working to build a sustainable shelter for Musical Arts communities in South London. Future proofing for safe and affordable studios and collective spaces that enrich creative cultures and promote public engagement opportunities.

Registered as a Community Benefit Society (CBS) with Charitable Aims, Perfect Pitch holds a similar outlook to the Creative Land Trust‘s ethos (for Visual Arts spaces), and the community ownership model of Music Venue Trust. The goal is to buy a property outright in London, enabling the CBS to offer controlled rent, and guarantee that the building will be used as a facility solely for music creatives and businesses, in perpetuity.

    OUR VISION

To provide affordable, safe, adapted spaces in London for creatives involved in the Musical Arts, to be held in perpetuity for use soley by music related activities.

    OUR MISSION

To secure and develop a suitable property in Lambeth for tenancy by independent musicians or businesses/charity groups that support musicians, as well as sole traders who provide services for musicians and music industry.

By offering controlled rent we aim to encourage music creatives, businesses and charity groups to remain in/gravitate towards Lambeth and share their skills and experience with the local community.

WHY DO WE NEED PERFECT PITCH NOW?

Commercial rent in the UK is unsustainable and unregulated. Time and again we have seen venues and creative spaces used by musicians and community music groups either closed down, or kept open only due to the generous donations and support of the public. It is time to find a solution to the problem of unsustainable rent increases gutting communities of their creative music spaces.

In the long term, Perfect Pitch want to change the habit of saving these spaces from property developers at the last minute, to instead, making them perpetually safe. To do this we intend to raise funds to acquire the freehold and futureproof buildings that will be used specifically for music making, and related activities, forever.

It has to start somewhere. Why not here? Why not now?

    WHY LAMBETH?

From Brixton Academy to Bowie’s birthplace, Electric Avenue to the Windmill independent music venue, this Lambeth area is famously linked with music making. From dub and reggae, to club culture, and with a new wave of cutting edge South London indie bands, Brixton is as alive with musical talent as it ever was.

However, over the last 10 years, the area has lost a number of music spaces, from recording studios (priced out due to the takeover of the Business Centre in Loughborough Junction), musical instrument shop BEM Music, and a number of venues, the latest of which being The Dogstar. The area’s main music creation hub, Brixton Hill Studios was recently saved from closure through a public campaign and Lambeth Council support.

Brixton residents are vehemently proud of their environment with groups like Transition Town Brixton & the Fight The Tower campaign favouring local sustainable businesses and community ventures over property development.

Brixton is home to the rehearsal studio whose fight to survive was the reason Perfect Pitch began, so staying in the area makes perfect sense.
